Average class size: ~34students
Student selection criteria: Any student that is in the 11th or 12th grade may sign up for the course.
Class schedule: The course spans 18 weeks (one semester). We meet every other day for 90 minutes.
Course purpose: The main goal is to make sure that students understand how sociology applies in the real world. By setting this as a goal, I find that the students enjoy the class more and come to be more observant of themselves and others in their social situations.
Most exams are multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and short answer. They are designed to represent all the material in the readings, notes, and videos used in the classroom. An application project is included each six weeks.
Evaluation: There will be two exams each six weeks. Exams will count 50% of their six weeks grade. Other assignments will make up the remaining 50% of their grade.
This syllabus represents an overview of the academic Sociology course offered at New Braunfels High School.
